Rodney Wilson Obituary

Rodney Leighton Wilson, age 56, a long-time resident of Mays Landing, New Jersey, died Saturday, June 16, of injuries received in a motorcycle accident in Morgantown, West Virginia. Rodney was born on October 1, 1961 in Bethpage, NY, the youngest son of Rodney W. and Nancy S. Wilson. He spent most of his youth in Wilmington, Delaware, and in 1979 graduated from Concord High School. He obtained his undergraduate degree in Film & Television from American University in 1983. Rodney worked for many years in Atlantic City as a sound and lighting technician, cameraman, and in a backstage production capacity. In 1988, at his sister’s wedding, Rodney met and became enchanted with Patricia A. Bouchard, another Wilmingtonian. They married one year later and started a family in 1992 with a daughter, Sarah F. Wilson, followed by their son, Adrien J. Wilson, in 1997. Rodney was predeceased by his wife Patty in 2002 and by his father Rodney in 2015. In addition to his two children, both of Mays Landing, Rodney is survived by: his mother, Nancy S. Wilson of Wilmington; his sister, Darla F. Wilson of Wilmington; and his brother, Tyler J. Wilson and wife, Ann D. Blakey, of Arlington, Virginia. Rodney was passionate about his interests and his favorite pursuits, including motorcycling, photography, film, and skiing. He could be equally intense in debating politics and spoke his mind without fear. He was a former member of the Star Lodge #65 of Tuckahoe. Rodney was a loving father and a caring husband and a loyal friend to many. As a son and brother and uncle, he will be dearly missed, and he will always be in the hearts of his entire extended family and circle of friends. Family and friends are invited to gather and celebrate Rodney’s Life from 10 am to 12 pm on Saturday, June 23rd, at Boakes Funeral Home, 6050 Main Street, Mays Landing, NJ, where a Masonic Service will be held at Noon, followed by reflections. A gathering will be held on Monday, June 25th, from 10 am to 12 pm at Chandler Funeral Home, 2506 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE with reflections at 12. Internment will immediately follow at St. Joseph on the Brandywine Cemetery, Greenville, DE. Rodney’s children are asking, if friends and family are so inclined, to contribute to a Memorial Fund in lieu of flowers. The Memorial Fund will assist them in honoring one of Rodney’s lifelong dreams of taking a cross-country trip to Alaska, where Sarah and Adrien intend to spread his ashes.
