Roger Banner Mays Landing, New Jersey Obituary

Roger Banner

Banner, Roger R. "Sonny" of Mays Landing, went home to Vannaman's Crossing on August 19, 2008 after a brief illness. His love for his country was not only shown by the 21 years that he proudly served his country in both the United States Army and the United States Air Force, but also by his support of and personal friendship with Senator Frank Lobiando. After his retirement from the military, Roger went to work at Bayside State Prison in Leesburg for another 21 years. He loved his daily visits to the farm where Cheri and Jim have made their home on the land that he owned since he was a teenager. Roger was an avid sportsman. His love for hunting took him to many states with Jim, John, Freddie (who were like sons to him) and many other friends, with Montana being his favorite. Roger's legacy, that few can match, will live on with the many family members and friends he leaves behind. He was a rock to all who loved him. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Gloria Z. Banner; his loving and devoted #1 daughter and son-in-law Cheri (Banner) Mancuso and Jim Mancuso; a loving sister, Lorraine Completo, the Kotansky family, many nieces and nephews and the "boys." Roger shared a very special bond and friendship with his nephew Freddie Banner. Roger is also survived by and will be sadly missed by John T. Masker, who Roger would say "was as close as any son could be" and long-time friends, daughter #2 Nancy M. Buchanan and daughter #3, Ann-Marie Pappelardo. Roger is predeceased by his parents Rudy Banner and Sylvia Banner, his brother Louis Banner, his daughter Gloria Banner, and his long-time companion, Daisy, his loving dog. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, 1 PM, at the Boakes Funeral Home, 6050 Main St., Mays Landing, where friends may call from 11 AM until the time of the service. As in true Roger style, casual dress is required.
