Ruth Branks

Ruth Branks, 93, of Stuart, FL passed away quietly on February 1, 2013. Born Ruth Marie Toy in the summer of 1919, she was raised in Toledo, Ohio and graduated from Libby High School in 1937. She worked for Champion Spark Plug Mfg during WWII and later came east to visit relatives in Philadelphia, PA. She made her way to Atlantic City, where she worked at the great Chalfonte-Haddon Hall Hotel on the boardwalk. In town she met and married a Navy chief petty officer, Albert Branks. They were married for 45 years during which time they raised two children, traveled and enjoyed life together. She lived in southern New Jersey most of her adult life and was an avid reader. Her final years were spent in Florida near her daughter, who was also her caregiver for over a year. Ruth is predeceased by her husband Al, parents Frank and Helen Toy, her three brothers Lee, Bob, and Bud; and her daughter-in-law Sherry Branks. Surviving Ruth is her sister Ann, her daughter Patricia Bodie and her husband Bob, her son Larry, her granddaughters Jacquelyn and Stephanie, and one great-grandson, Ian. Services will be held on Wednesday, February 6, at 11:00am, where a viewing will be held from 10:00am til the time of the service, at the Boakes Funeral Home, 6050 Main St., Mays Landing. Burial will be at the Atlantic County Veterans Cemetery, Estell Manor, NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ruth’s memory to The Treasure Coast Hospice, 1201 S.E. Indian St., Stuart, FL 34997.
