Salvatore Gioconda

Salvatore Gioconda- (Sam) passed away peacefully October 23th,2018 at the Vineland Memorial Veteran’s home. Sam was born in Mays Landing on September 23rd 1927 to Joseph and Anna Gioconda and was a local resident of Mays Landing and Egg Harbor Township all of his life. He enlisted into the Navy with an underage permission form from his father on January 11, 1951. Later he enlisted in the Army Reserves as Private First Class on a paratrooper squad January of 1953. Sam proudly served his country in the Korean War before an honorable discharge in 1956. He was self-employed in construction and as a heavy equipment operator but enjoyed many outdoor hobbies like fishing and hunting and yard work. He married his second love (Marge) on June 27, 1981 where they created a bond of friendship, love, family and Fishing. The only time you would not find them at home meant they were out on the water looking for the catch of the day. Many fun summers were had by the growing combined family cooking crabs and spaghetti in the corn crib kitchen.

Sam is predeceased by his parents and siblings, Joseph, Rita, and Jean, and niece Patty. He is survived by his wife Margaret Gioconda (whom he was still In-Love with to his last breath). Also survived by one sister Mary, 2 sons Samuel L. Gioconda, David (Nina) Gioconda and 4 step children Peggy (John) Bishop, Vicki (Dale) Winterbottom, Mark (Celeste) Harris and Glendon (Mary) Harris. Also survived by 13 grandchildren Jason, Samantha, Mikayla, Nathan, Dale Jr., Ann, Earl, Michael, Meaghan, Michasia, Glendon III, Cody and Brady and 15 great-grandchildren. There was never a baby brought in the house that wasn’t a photo opportunity for Sam.

A viewing will be held on Tuesday October 30, 2018 from 10am to 11am at Boakes Funeral Home, 6050 Main St., Mays Landing, where reflections will be shared at 11 am. Burial with military honors will follow at the Union Cemetery in Mays Landing.

In Lieu of flowers donations can be made in Sam’s memory to the National Alzheimer’s Association.
