<p>Sanford "Sandy" Moss</p><p>August 26, 1934 - July 5, 2014</p><p><br></p><p>Sandy was born on August 26, 1934 in Philadelphia, the only child of Max and Irma Moss. He was educated in the public schools of Philadelphia. He attended Marietta College, Marietta, Ohio, graduating in 1956 with as Bachelor of Arts degree and an English major.</p><p><br></p><p>Following graduation he worked as assistant sports editor on the Wilmington, North Carolina newspaper, before being drafting into the U.S. Army where he served as an intelligence specialist.</p><p><br></p><p>After being discharged in the summer of 1958, he enrolled in the University of Wisconsin in Madison to work on a master's degree in journalism. Harold Kurtz and he were teaching assistants in the School of Journalism where they shared an office. They became life-long friends.</p><p><br></p><p>While attending graduate school, he began working for the Wisconsin State Journal in Madison, a position he held until 1965. It was at the State Journal that he met Sharon Coady, a journalism graduate of Michigan State University, who worked for the paper while earning a master's degree in history at the University of Wisconsin. They were married in 1965 in Cedar Springs, Michigan, Sharon's hometown. Following their marriage, they moved to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, where Sharon taught at Harrisburg Community College, and Sandy worked for the Harrisburg News Patriot. After three years, they quit work, went to Europe, bought a Volkswagen and spent a year traveling around Europe.</p><p><br></p><p>When they returned to the U.S., they moved to Mays Landing, NJ. Sharon taught history at Atlantic Community College, and Sandy worked as publications and information director at the college. They built a house on Ninth Street in Mays Landing. Their marriage later ended in divorce. Sharon earned a doctorate at the University of Delaware and went on to a career in college administration. Sandy continued to live in the house on Ninth Street. Sandy worked in a variety of newspaper, communications and consulting positions in the U.S. and Great Britain. Sandy traveled all over the world, but his favorite destinations were France, England and rural Wisconsin. He made frequent trips with Harold and Grace Kurtz.</p><p><br></p><p>In the last few years, Sandy's health declined. He had a lengthy hospitalization and rehabilitation earlier this year. In June he was readmitted to the hospital and progressively went down hill. On July 4, he experienced a massive heart episode and died on the evening of July 5. At his request he was cremated and will have his ashes interred in the Otter Creek Church Cemetery in Iowa County, Wisconsin.</p>
