Shirley Wigglesworth Obituary

Shirley Evelyn Wigglesworth, age 93, a longtime resident of Mays Landing, passed away Monday, February 22, 2010 in her home in Wellsboro Pennsylvania under the loving care of her daughters. She was born April 14, 1916 in Brooklyn, New York, the eldest daughter of the late Roy H. and Edith E. (Ballou) Williams. She married William (Bill) Wigglesworth on June 1, 1940 and the couple resided in Mays Landing for 58 years. Shirley enjoyed homemaking, gardening and all manner of arts and crafts, including oil painting, sketching, pottery and basketmaking. She partnered with her late husband Bill, a skilled cabinetmaker, to create many fine pieces of furniture and carvings. She was an accomplished seamstress and for several years worked for the Singer company, giving sewing lessons. Shirley also was employed in the 1960's and 70's at the Atlantic County Library in Mays Landing. She was also one of the founding members of the Hamilton Township Historical Society. Shirley was predeceased by her parents, her husband, sister Edith and brothers Stanley and Royal. She is survived by her daughters, Lynn Wigglesworth of Wellsboro, Pennsylvania and Karen Wigglesworth of Hulls Cove, Maine, grandchildren David and Katie Helfrich of Wellsboro, PA, brother Benjamin B. Williams of Montgomery, Alabama and numerous nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind her beloved pets, Blackie and Pup-pup. Services will be held on SATURDAY, 11:00 A.M. at Boakes Funeral Home, 6050 Main St., Mays Landing where a viewing will be held from 10 AM until the time of the service. Donations may be made in her name to the A.S.P.C.A.
