Obituary
William F., Bartelt passed away on June 25, 2016 at his home in Egg Harbor City, NJ. He was 100 years old. A lifelong resident of South Jersey, William (or Bill, as he was known) was born on March 12, 1916 to William E. and Elsie Bartelt in Camden, NJ. He attended schools in both Camden and Collingswood, after which he resided with his parents in Haddon Heights until his marriage to Ruth Shearer in 1941, and they moved to Hi-Nella, NJ. Together, they had two children: Bill, Jr. who lives in Newport News, VA with his wife Heidi, and Carol Ann who is married to Frank Scott and living in Voorhees.
Bill was predeceased by his second wife Ollie and his third wife of 31 years, Marie. In addition to his children Bill is also survived by his sister Ernestine Eberhardt of Santa Barbara, CA; grandsons Bernd W. Bartelt (Tawny), David F. Scott (Amy), Keith E. Scott (Lisa), and Brian A. Bartelt; step-daughter Peggy Franklin (Gary) and their children, Brooke, Meghan, and Mandy Kelley (Mark); and great grandchildren Nikolas Bartelt, Jake and Evan Scott, and Maya and Makayla Kelley.
Bill worked hard all his life, from being a gas welder in the shipyard, to becoming a baker extraordinaire, and finally the president of his own frozen food company: Bartelt’s Frozen Foods, servicing restaurants and eateries along the Jersey shore from Atlantic City to Cape May. He was a member of Unity Lodge #96 F&AM. Bill was a very charismatic man, and all who met him felt an immediate affection for him. He loved life and people and enjoyed time wherever he went. He was so happy to celebrate his 100th birthday where we celebrated his life and legacy with family and friends. Bill had many many friends through the years, most of which didn’t live to the age he did. We would like to acknowledge two special neighbors who were there for him day and night, Milt and Renee Grey, and his wonderful caregiver Connie Adjin Tettey.
