Barbara Ann Friend, 86, of Long Branch, beloved wife of Melvin Friend; mother of Shelley, David and his wife Margee Friend and Bruce and his wife Rhonda Friend; grandmother of Erika, Zachary, Matthew and Alex Friend, passed away on Tuesday, January 16, 2018. Born in Trenton, she grew up in Asbury Park and moved to Long Branch in 1956. She was Club Champion at Old Orchard Golf Club in Eatontown for many years, as well as a master bridge player and Scrabble wizard. She was an honorary member of the American Bridge Association. She retired from Monmouth Park Race Track after 25 years of service. She will be remembered for her intellect, sense of humor and amazing bravery. At 70, Barbara survived a catastrophic illness. She persevered and went on to lead a great quality of life surrounded by her family and friends. She will be dearly missed. She was predeceased by her parents, David and Selma Fried and brother, Larry Fried. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral service at 10 am Friday at the Fiore Funeral Home, 236 Monmouth Road, Oakhurst, Ocean Township.
