Obituary for Dorothy P Eaton

Eaton, Dorothy Mae (Pursell) , age 97, of Petersburg, NJ passed away peacefully on Tues. afternoon Aug. 5th. She was born on a dairy farm in Phillipsburg (Alpha) NJ and grew up there until she met her husband, Charles Eaton from Chicago. She was married to Charles for over 65 years, and he pre-deceased her in 2003. Also, pre-deceased by mother, Anna Maguire, father, Frank Pursell, her twin brother, Donald, brother, Robert and sister Grace Elizabeth. Dorothy attended Churchman's
Business College and worked for many years in the field of Special Education. Dorothy resided in Phillipsburg during WW2 while her husband served in the Navy. After the war, they moved to the Chicago suburbs where they raised a family. Dorothy was a former member of OES while husband, Charles was a member of F&AM (Masons and Shriners). She loved to golf, a long-time member or Ruth Lake Country Club in Hinsdale, Ill., and later in life ran her own golf league. Dorothy and Charles
retired to Farmington, Connecticut where they resided for 30 years. Dorothy had many hobbies. She was a beautiful singer and loved to spend time sewing and embroidering. She also had a green thumb making her an avid gardener. She loved to cook and made the BEST cinnamon crumb coffee cake! Dorothy returned to NJ in 2000 when her husband became ill, and lived with her daughter and family. She is survived by a sister, Joyce (Pursell) Vannatta and husband Robert of Harmony, NJ,
son Laurence Pursell Eaton of Boca Raton, Fla., daughter Judith Ann (Eaton) Johnson of Toledo, Ohio, and daughter Elizabeth Joyce (Betsy) Eaton-O'Shea and husband, Timothy of Petersburg, NJ. Also survived are grandchildren, Dawn (Jernigan) Corns, Debra (Jernigan) Vance, Patrick O'Shea, Heather O'Shea, Laura O'Shea- Locke, and Brent Eaton along with 6 Great Grandchildren. Dorothy has many surviving nieces and nephews who also loved her through her life. Services are to be held at the
Church of the Resurrection, 200 Tuckahoe Rd, Marmora, NJ on Sat. Aug. 9th. Friends may call from 1:00 - 1:30 and a Mass with family and friends will be offered at 1:30. Burial to be private.
