Joel Krause

Joel D. Krause, 81, of Rockaway, N.J., passed away on Monday, August 5, 2019. A Memorial Service will be held on August 25,2019 at 2 pm at the First Presbyterian Church at Caldwell, 326 Bloomfield Ave., Caldwell, N.J. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Shook-Farmer Funeral Home, 45 Roseland Ave., Roseland, N.J. Memories and condolences may be shared at shookfarmer.com. Joel was born in Kearny, N.J. and was the son of Leonard and Mae M. (nee: Robinson) Krause. He lived in Livingston, N.J., Hobart, Indiana, Kearny, N.J., Roseland, and Caldwell before settling in Rockaway for 36 years. Joel made deep and lasting friendships everywhere he went. Among the many, the most enduring were those he met attending The Newark School of Fine and Industrial Arts. They shared a love of fine art, music, books and great conversation. Art defined Joel and his last 3 one-man shows were at Morris County Library, Sussex County College, and Kessler Institute. Over the years he also had pieces in galleries and juried exhibitions, won a US Mint Award for a bicentennial coin design and worked as Sculptor’s Assistant to the renowned sculptor, Seymour Lipton. He also worked as a Historical Interpreter at Waterloo Village where he was able to share his love of American History. Among his last interests and challenges was his participation in the Amputee Walking School where he received inspiration and training and where he was well on his way to achieving his 1-million steps. Predeceased by his parents, he is survived by his wife, Kristin M. Ingersoll; children, Deanna D’Addezio, Drew Krause, and his wife, Effie; and Gard Krause, and his wife, Christine; grandchildren, Joseph, Alyssa, Krysta, Alexa, Anthony, Brielle, and Hunter; siblings, Jeffrey Krause and Gail Jones, and her husband, Charles; mother-in-law, Laura Ingersoll; sister-in-law, Carol Ingersoll, and her husband, Bill Barclay; and nieces, nephews and extended family members.
