Sister Ann, CSJP, 80, of Englewood Cliffs died peacefully at St. Michael Villa on July 27, 2015. She was born on August 27, 1934 in Carbondale, PA, to the late Gordon Joseph Rutan and Elizabeth McGlynn Rutan. Sister Ann entered the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Peace at St. Michael Villa Novitiate on September 12, 1962 and pronounced final vows there on May 24, 1970. Sr. Ann’s religious ministry of 60 years focused on administration and leadership. Initially assigned to St. Joseph School for the Blind, Jersey City and St. Luke’s School, Ho-Ho-Kus, she then served as Congregation Secretary/Treasurer. Election to Province Leadership followed; and in 1997 she was chosen to serve as President of the entire Congregation. Later assignments included Water Spirit and Stella Maris Retreat Center, Elberon; and Administrator, St. Michael Villa. Sr. Ann retired in 2014. A graduate of Seton Hall University; Sr. Ann received an MBA from Notre Dame University. She served on several governing boards including Holy Name Medical Center, St. Peter’s Medical Center, New Brunswick, St. Joseph School for the Blind, Jersey City and Peace Health, Vancouver, WA. Sister Ann was pre-deceased by her sisters, Jane Rutan, Mary Robinson and Catherine Wojciak. She is survived by her nephews, Adam John and Joseph, and nieces, Alison, Ann Elizabeth, Deborah, Mary Jane, Nancy and Teresa as well as numerous grandnieces and grandnephews. Visitation will be held on Friday, July 31, 2015 from 2-7 PM at St. Michael Villa, 399 Hudson Terrace, Englewood Cliffs, NJ. Liturgy of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, August 1, at 10:00 AM in St. Michael Villa Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Peace, Shalom Center, 399 Hudson Terrace, Englewood Cliffs, NJ 07632.
