Agnes Gabor

Agnes Gabor, a longtime resident of New Brunswick, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, February 11th, 2020 with family and caregivers by her side. She was 99. Born on September 6, 1920 in Roaring Creek, Pennsylvania to Frank and Susan (Toth) Sabo. She spent the early portion of her life at her homestead, assisting her widowed mother and siblings. In 1945 she become the beloved wife for 46 years to William Gabor who predeceased her in 1991. After marriage she was a dedicated homemaker, caring for her family. She was active in Girl Scouts, PTA and other committees throughout her daughter’s growing years. Agnes then began a second career as a Teacher’s Assistant with the New Brunswick Board of Education for many years until her retirement in 1987. She was known for her home-made cooking, joy of baking, socializing with family and friends, always welcoming them into her home. She enjoyed gardening and international travel after her retirement. Agnes is predeceased by her brother, Frank Sabo and sisters, Elizabeth Sabo, Lizzie Sabo, Barbara Ericksen, Helen Scott, Ruth Burkhardt, Margaret McCormick and Esther Wagner. She is survived by her daughters Karen Gabor of Franklin Park, Sandra Gabor of New Brunswick, a grandson Jason Gabor of New Brunswick and her grand pup “Lola Lovebug” of Franklin Park. Agnes is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews, as well as great and great-great nieces and nephews. Agnes will be greatly missed by ALL who knew her. Her family appreciated the compassionate care she received during her last years at Spring Hills of Somerset, Assisted Living Facility. Family and friends may visit on Sunday, February 16th, 2020 from 2 to 4 PM at the Gleason Funeral Home, 1360 Hamilton Street, Somerset, NJ 08873. Funeral services will begin Monday, February 17th, 2020 at 10:00 AM at the Gleason Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Van Liew Cemetery in North Brunswick. Donations in her loving memory can be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105.
