Domingo “Mingo” Maldonado Franklin Park Domingo Maldonado passed away on Monday August 12, 2019 surrounded by his family in NJ. He was 87 years old. Mr. Maldonado was born in Santurce and was raised in Vega Baja, Puerto Rico. He arrived in NYC at the young age of 14 to finish school. He met Zoraida “Zory” Miranda once again in NYC who he knew in Puerto Rico as a child. They married September 26, 1953. He was a member of the Holy Name Society, was a “Cursillista”. For retirement they moved to Spring Hill, Florida where they resided for 24 years. They recently moved to his daughter and son-in-law’s home in Franklin Park. He worked for many years for printing companies that serviced Wall Street with stocks and bonds as a printing manager at CP Young & Co before retiring. Mr. Maldonado was a music lover, enjoying classic Puerto Rican and Latin American music by Rafael Hernandez, Trio Los Panchos, Trio Vegabajeño, El Gran Combo, Bobby Capo, Carlos Gardel, just to name a few. He was part of Celia Cruz’s Fan Club organization in the 50’s. He sang and played the guitar. He was a better than average dancer and engaged in long conversations about history, politics and science. He enjoyed baseball, reading, playing Brisca (Spanish cards) and dominoes. In addition to Spanish TV channels and shows like “Don Francisco’s Sabado Gigante”, he enjoyed old black and white movies: Alfred Hitchcock, Abbott & Costello, Lawrence Welk and Ed Sullivan shows, monster movies, dramas, comedies and mysteries. He also enjoyed being outdoors taking long walks for miles anywhere. When younger, he was an avid reader and would curl up in bed to read the New York Times back to back every Sunday. In recent times his favorite channel was CNN and Spanish international channels. In his later years he enjoyed and looked forward to spending summers in the Poconos with good friends and family. He was pre-deceased by his parents Ramon “Bermudez” Maldonado and Cruz “Cua” Pantoja. He was also pre-deceased by his siblings Antonio Maldonado, Ramon “Monchin” Maldonado, Ramona “Moncha” Rivera and Luz “Lucy” Rodriguez. Mingo was the youngest sibling. Mr. Maldonado is survived by his loving wife Mrs. Zoraida Maldonado of Franklin Park and their two children Zoraida Maldonado and her husband Cameron B. Henderson of Franklin Park and John D. Maldonado and his children Amanda and John Maldonado of Edgewater, grandchildren of Mr. Maldonado. Funeral services will take place on Monday August 26th at 10 A.M. at the Gleason Funeral Home followed by 11 A.M. funeral mass at St. Augustine of Canterbury Church in Kendall Park.
