Ernest Zarnowski

Ernest V. Zarnowski, 81, of Silver Ridge Park North section of Berkeley Twsp., NJ died Saturday January 22, 2011 at home. Born and raised in Kearny, NJ, he was a 1948 graduate of Kearny High School. He was a lifelong resident of Kearny before moving to Berkeley Twsp in 1986. Ernest was a Detective for the Kearny Police Department, retiring in 1986 after 30 years of service. Mr. Zarnowski was a US Marine Corp. Korean War veteran, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was a parishioner of St. Maximilian Koble RC Church, Berkeley Twsp., where he was very active in the church's community. He also served as lector for the church. Ernest was a member of the Retired Police and Fireman Local 8, the American Legion Post 129, Toms River, served as a Director, Commissioner and Financial Secretary of the Polish National Alliance Group 2901, was past President of the Silver Ridge Park Men's Club and served on the Silver Ridge Park Homeowners Association. Predeceased by his wife Vivian Zarnowski in 1990 and 2 brothers Roy and Edward Zarnowski. Surviving are his son David and daughter in law Linda Zarnowski of East Brunswick, NJ, 2 grandchildren Michael and John Zarnowski and his companion Betty Okeson of Berkeley Twsp. The family will receive friends Monday 2-4 & 7-9pm at the Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals, 145 St. Catherine Blvd., Toms River. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Tuesday 11:00am at Our Lady of Czestochowa RC Church, Harrison, NJ. Burial to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington, NJ.
