Gerald J. Griffin, 83, of the Carefree section of Berkeley Twsp., NJ died on Thursday January 17, 2019 at his home. Gerald was born in Newark, NJ and lived in Irvington, NJ before moving to Berkeley Twsp., NJ 15 years ago. He proudly served his country in the USMC Reserves. Gerald was a member of the Amalgamated Transit Union Local 819 as a bus driver working out of Hilton Garage in Maplewood, NJ from 1960-1993 for NJ Transit. He was an active member, Past Grand Knight and 4th Degree of the Knights of Columbus #4066 in Newark, NJ. Gerald was a member of the Vailsburg Irish/American Association. Gerald is predeceased by his parents John and Anna Griffin. SIster Mary Hummel brothers- Richard Daniel and William He is survived by his wife Dolores his children John Griffin and his wife Nicole of Scotch Plains, NJ, Michael Griffin of Belleville, NJ, Linda Marinello and her husband Frank of Toms River, NJ; his sister Elizabeth Doran of North Carolina; his seven grandchildren Anthony,Stephanie,Christopher,Michael Jr, Shane, Brianna and Riley and three great grandchildren Ryan Zoe and Gia. Family will receive friends on Monday January 21, 2019 from 4-8pm at the Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals 145 St. Catherine Blvd. Toms River, NJ. A Mass of Christian burial will be offered on Tuesday January 22, 2019 at 10:30am at St. Maximilian Kolbe RC Church. Burial will follow to Gate of Heaven in East Hanover, NJ.
