John Ryan Ratzer

John Ryan Ratzer, age 75, of Hamburg, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 22, 2021 with his family by his side. Born in Paterson to the late Walter and Veronica (Ryan) Ratzer, John lived in Clifton before settling in Hamburg twenty years ago. A proud US Army veteran of the Vietnam War, John was a graduate of William Paterson University. John worked as a Clifton Police Officer until his retirement. He most recently worked as a repair service clerk at Verizon from 1996 to 2008. John was most proud of his membership in the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter #1002 in Vernon. Predeceased by his son, John Ratzer, Jr., and daughter, Mary Ratzer, John is survived by his loving wife, Sharon (Fay) Ratzer; children Robyn Sealey of Hamburg, James Ratzer and his partner Charlene Mure of Ogdensburg, Thomas Ratzer of Hamburg, and Ryan Ratzer and his wife Antoinette of Wantage; grandchildren Aaron Sealey, Ashley, Ava, and Adyson McCurdie, and John Ratzer; great-grandchildren Nehemiah Sealey and Jordan John Sanders; sister Marilyn Harding; as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews. A visitation for John will be held on Sunday, February 28th, 2021 from 1-5PM at the Ferguson—Vernon Funeral Home, 241 Route 94, (One Vanderhoof Court for GPS) Vernon, NJ 07462. A Funeral Mass will be on Monday, March 1st, 10AM at the St. Jude the Apostle RC Church. Burial in the Northern New Jersey Veterans Memorial Cemetery will follow.
