Edward Finnigan Obituary

Edward M. Finnigan died peacefully on Monday, September 14, 2009 at his home in The Arbors, Spring Lake Heights. Born in Elizabeth, New Jersey, he grew up in Irvington and graduated from Irvington High School, Class of 1949. After graduation, he proudly served in the U.S. Coast Guard. He was employed for over thirty years by the Prudential Insurance Company in Newark as a stationary operating engineer, retiring in 1986. He moved to the shore area and was happily employed for a time as a crossing guard at the Manasquan Elementary School. He was a communicant and long time usher of St. Denis Church, and 4th Degree Past Grand Knight of the Rt. Rev. Msgr. John F. Baldwin Assembly of the Knights of Columbus. Edward was a former member of the Manasquan Elks Lodge #2534. He moved to The Villages, in Lady Lake, Florida, where he enjoyed many activities and made many wonderful friends. Edward was predeceased by his beloved wife, Joan Huey Finnigan, brother Harry Finnigan, and sister Mary Newton Soulis. He is survived by his brother, John (Jack) Finnigan, son Michael C. Finnigan and wife Regina, Palm Coast, FL, daughters Debra Rogers and husband John, Ringoes, NJ, Linda Von Bulow and husband Douglas, Wall Township, NJ, Robin Nagy and husband Joseph, Barnegat, NJ. Edward also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren, Sgt. Derek J. Rogers, USMC, Cpl. Mark R. Rogers, USMC, both currently serving in Iraq, Emily Von Bulow, Jake E. Nagy, Catherine Finnigan and Regina Finnigan. He is also survived by stepgrandchildren Jennifer Seagle, Joseph Nagy, Brandi Hubbard, Alexis Clayton, Cassie Clayton and many dear nieces and nephews and friends, both in New Jersey and Florida. Visitation Thursday from 4-8pm at the O’Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Highway 35 at New Bedford Road, Wall, New Jersey. Funeral Mass Friday, 9:30am at St. Denis Church, Manasquan, NJ followed by entombment at St. Catharine’s Cemetery, Sea Girt, NJ.
