Mary Ann Tinney Obituary

Mary Ann (Kubo) Tinney, of Spring Lake, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on July 4, 2010, at the Center for Hope, Scotch Plains, N.J. Born in Newark, Mary was a member of St. Stephen’s Church where she sang in the choir. In 1961 she moved to South Orange where she resided with her husband, the late John A. Tinney and her daughter Patricia Tinney Ott, for 28 years. She was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Church where she was active in the parish community and involved with the Rosary Society and the OLS Bowling Team. She worked for Lord and Taylor for many years in the hand bag department. In 1988 she retired to Spring Lake. As a member of St. Catharine’s/St. Margaret’s Church, she was a daily communicant and active in the Rosary Society. Mary (Mimi) loved life, traveling, golf sports, the beach, family and friends. She was predeceased by her husband, John A. Tinney, who passed in 1987. She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Tinney Ott and son-in-law, Kyle R. Ott and her beloved grandchildren Kyle John Ott and Erin Elizabeth Ott. She also leaves her sister, Magdalene Torres, and many nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, July 10, 2010, at 11 AM at St. Catharine’s Catholic Church, 215 Essex Avenue, Spring Lake. A private burial will be on Monday at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in East Hanover. There will be no calling hours. Following the Mass, friends will be received at her home in Spring Lake. In lieu of flowers please donate to the Center for Hope, 1900 Raritan Road, Scotch Plains, N.J. 07076.
