Muriel Keating Obituary

Muriel Keating, 86, of Spring Lake, loving wife, mother, and grandmother passed away peacefully on June 14 in Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center, Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. Mrs. Keating was married for 63 years to Captain Cornelius J. Keating. She was born in Manhattan and resided with Neil in West Brighton, Staten Island until 1978 when they moved to Spring Lake, New Jersey. Mrs. Keating was very active on Staten Island, working for many charities, including the Youth Council of Sacred Heart RC Church and the former St. Vincent’s Medical Center where she chaired the Charity Ball for three years. She also enjoyed volunteering as a runway model for charity events for many years. Mrs. Keating was a communicant of St. Catharine’s-St. Margaret’s Parish, Spring Lake. Mrs. Keating was predeceased by her parents, Clarence and Julia McCormack Hanlon, her son, Paul Keating, FDNY, who died in the 9/11 terrorist attack, her grandson, Michael Matthews, and her sister, Lorraine Beagen. In addition to her husband Neil, she is survived by her daughters Kathleen Matthews and husband Dan of Spring Lake, Jeanne Keating of Neptune, and Christine Keating of Spring Lake Heights and sons Cornelius (Neil) of Spring Lake, Jeffrey and wife Tara of Manasquan. In addition, she is survived by six grandchildren: Dan and Julia Matthews, Ashley, Jeffrey, and Matthew Keating, and William Smith. She is also survived by four great grandchildren. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation on Friday, June 16, from 3-7 at O’Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Highway 35, at New Bedford Road, Wall, New Jersey 07719. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday, June 17, at 11:15 am, St. Margaret’s Church, corner of Third and Ludlow Avenues, Spring Lake, New Jersey 07762. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Spring Lake Fire Company #1, 1007 5th Ave, Spring Lake, NJ 07762. Envelopes will be provided by the funeral home on Friday.
