Obituary for Robert Henry Nylund

Nylund, Robert Henry, age 79, of Wyckoff, passed into eternal peace on July 12, 2011. He was born in Bronx, NY and had resided in Wyckoff for many years. Robert served in the US Navy during the Korean War from 1950-1954. He graduated from Fairleigh Dickinson University with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering. He retired in 1993 after 37 years of employment with Allied Bendix Aerospace, Teterboro, NJ during which time he received many awards for future technology in Aerospace. He had direct involvement with many space programs including, Apollo, Hubble and the U 2 spy plane piloted by Gary Powers. One of Robert’s personal highlights was his acting role as a High Priest in the Opera Aida, performed at the New York Met with opera singer Leontyne Price. He had a passion for golf and was a member of High Mountain Golf Club, Franklin Lakes. His interests were many, but reading and gardening were among his favorites. He is a former member of the American Legion Post 170, Wyckoff Little League Coach, Boy Scout Leader and the Wyckoff Men’s Softball and Basketball teams of which he played well into his 60’s. Robert is survived by his wife, Gay (nee DiVanno), a son, Robert Nylund of Hackettstown and two daughters, Debra Green of Wyckoff and Susan Senna of Raleigh, NC and also three grandchildren, Alisa and Nicole Senna and Robert Nylund. Visiting hours on Thursday, July 21, from 4:00 - 7:30 PM followed by a a prayer service at 7:30 PM at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, www.vpfh.com, 257 Godwin Ave. Wyckoff, NJ.
