Gilda M Constantine

Gilda M. Constantine, 88, of Tremont Avenue, Amsterdam, NY; peacefully entered heaven Saturday October 19, 2019. Born in Amsterdam on January 31, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Vito and Annunciata (Nancy) Mautone Montuoro. Gilda received her education in the Amsterdam school system and was a graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch High School, class of 1948. She also graduated from Mildred Elley Business School. Gilda was employed for over 30 years in the Accounting Department at Amsterdam Printing & Litho, Co; retiring in 2008. Along with her husband, Joe, she was a vital partner in the family business, Joe’s Refrigeration. She loved hosting Sunday pasta lunches where all were welcome. She especially enjoyed shopping for that perfect gift for family and friends. Gilda was a former parishioner and communicant of St. Michael the Archangel Church and currently St. Mary’s Church in Amsterdam. On October 11, 1953, Gilda married Joseph M. Constantine Sr., who survives. Gilda is also survived by one daughter, Linda Sawicki (Michael), five sons, Joseph Constantine Jr. (Julann), Anthony Constantine Sr., (Sandra), Matthew Constantine Sr. (Jeanette),Christopher Constantine and Stephen Constantine. Eleven grandchildren, Jessica (Eric) Mazzone, Joshua Sawicki, Elizabeth (Luke) Nally, Rachel (Derek) Schneider, Cherisse Constantine, Matthew Constantine Jr., James Constantine, Diana Constantine, Anthony Constantine Jr. (TommieAnn), Michael Constantine and Christina Constantine, six great granddaughters, Kateri, Lucia, Teresa and Cecilia Mazzone, Belle Nally and Marla Sutton, three great grandsons, Wesley Schneider, Declan Jennings and Anthony Constantine III., and brother-in-law, Martin Greene. Many nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Gilda was predeceased by her brother, Joseph (Mary) Montuoro, sisters, Yolanda S. Greene and Ann (John) Picciocca and nieces, Rosemary Constantine and Patty Montuoro. Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial, which will be celebrated Wednesday October 23, 2019 at 11:15 at St. Mary’s Church 156 East Main Street, Amsterdam, NY 12010. Interment will follow at St. Michael’s Cemetery, Amsterdam. Calling hours are Tuesday from 4 to 7 at the Riley Mortuary. Gilda’s family would like to thank the wonderful staff at the Wilkinson Residential Healthcare Facility who took care of Mom and also to the caring staff at St. Mary’s Healthcare who comforted Mom and her family.
