James R. Newkirk, 8, of Johnstown, NY, passed away Sunday May 28, 2017 at St. Mary’s Healthcare in Amsterdam, NY. Born on November 5, 2008 in Gloversville, NY, he was the son of Beth Richards and Darrin Newkirk. James was a 2nd grade student at Mayfield Central School. James loved music, cartoons, animals and loved being around family and friends. James is survived by his parents, two brothers, Tyler Newkirk of Mayfield, NY and Josh Rulison of Johnstown, NY; one sister, Jasmin Wilcox of Canajoharie, NY; his maternal grandmother and step grandfather, Vera Wood and Jessie Wood, his paternal grandmother, Beverly Paige, many aunts, uncles, cousins and his pet cats, Susie and Trixie, and his dog, Zeus. James was also predeceased by his maternal grandfather, Roland R. Johnson and his paternal grandfather, Ronald J. Paige. James’ family would like to thank all of the caregivers, for all the love and support they gave and showed towards James. A memorial gathering for family and friends will be held Thursday from 5 to 6 p.m. at The Riley Mortuary, Inc. 110 Division Street, Amsterdam, NY 12010.
