Maryelizabeth Betts Habla, 57 of Tribes Hill, NY; passed away Thursday February 23, 2017 at Albany Medical Center after a brief and courageous battle with breast cancer. Born in Troy, NY on January 11, 1960, she was the daughter of the late Howard Betts Sr., and Elizabeth DeVoe Betts who survives. Mary graduated from Shenendehowa High School. She received her associate’s degree in education at Hudson Valley Community College in Troy, her bachelor’s degree from SUNY Oswego and her master’s degree in education from Albany State. While at Oswego she was a member of the Phi Lambda Phi Sorority where she met many lifelong friends. Mary was a well loved teacher at Northville Central School, where she was involved in many of the schools extracurricular activities, including being a coach, advisor and volunteer for the yearly school programs and events. Mary was also a volunteer, teaching Sunday school at Sacred Heart Church in Tribes Hill, NY. Mary had a love of travel that took her to many places around North America and Europe but none as special as her travels to Cape Cod with her family. It was here she would travel to yead with her daughters, husband and extended family. Mary's Love and generosity extended beyond her family to a wide circle of friends. Her quick smile and ready laugh were infectious. Along with her mother, Mary is survived by her husband, Robert G. Habla Jr., who she married August 27, 1988, two daughters who were the lights of her life, Hillary and Kelsey Habla of Tribes Hill, three sisters, Beverly Betts (Kip Kirby) of the Town of Waterford, NY; Maureen Mancini (Frank) of The Town of Clifton Park, NY; and Bonnie Roes (Raymond) of Cobleskill, NY; two brothers, Wesley Betts (Dana) and Bruce Betts (Christine) all of the Town of Halfmoon, NY; her mother in law, Marge Habla, brothers and sisters in law and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Mary was also predeceased by her brother, Howard Betts Jr. Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial, which will be celebrated Tuesday February 28, 2017 at 11:15 at St. Mary’s Church, 156 East Main Street, Amsterdam, NY 12010. Calling hours are Monday from 4 to 7 at the Riley Mortuary, Inc. 110 Division Street, Amsterdam, NY 12010. Interment will take place this spring at Pine Grove Cemetery, Tribes Hill, NY and will be announced in a future edition of the newspaper.
