Matilda Masto Obituary

Matilda M. Masto, 89, of Amsterdam, NY, passed away on May 6, 2017 at the Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility in Amsterdam, with her husband and loving children at her side. Born on September 22, 1927 in Amsterdam, she was the daughter of the late Ralph and Lena Bosco Torsone. Matilda received her education in the Amsterdam public school system and graduated from Wilbur H. Lynch High School, Class of 1945. She attended the Juilliard School of Music in Manhattan, N.Y. Matilda was a former parishioner of St. Michael the Archangel Church in Amsterdam, where she was the organist for more than 30 years. She was a parishioner and communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Amsterdam. Matilda was a private piano teacher for over 60 years. She was the Musical Director for 25 years with the Galway Players and a substitute organist with the Calvary Reformed Church in Hagaman, NY. Matilda was a lifetime member of the Amsterdam Parent Teachers Association. Matilda is survived by her husband, L. Paul Masto who she married on May 16, 1954, one daughter, Maria O. Horan (Terry) of Deerfield, NY; three sons, Paul E. Masto (Catherine) of Las Vegas, NV., Mark J. Masto (Janet) and Michael E. Masto (Mary Kathryn) all of Littleton, CO. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Tanner, Parker and Hannah Horan and Shane and Luke Masto, four sisters-in-law, Virginia Brach, Laura Brach, Sarah (George) Stradone and Patricia Masto, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Matilda was also predeceased by 4 brothers, Lawrence, Edward, Virgil and Ronald Torsone. Calling hours are scheduled for Thursday, May 11, 2017, 4 to 7 PM at the Riley Mortuary, Inc. 110 Division Street, Amsterdam, NY. A mass of Christian Burial will occur on Friday, May 12th, at 11:15 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Amsterdam, NY. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Fort Johnson, NY. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at St. Mary’s Hospital and the Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility for the compassionate care they continually demonstrated towards Matilda.
