Monica “Joyce” Bazaar, 95 of Amsterdam, NY, passed away Wednesday morning, October 4, 2017 at St. Mary’s Healthcare in Amsterdam. Born in Amsterdam on July 25, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Irving and Monica Bush Hawker. Joyce received her education in the Amsterdam school system and graduated from Wilbur H. Lynch High School. Joyce was a homemaker. She was a parishioner and communicant of St. Mary’s Church, a member of the YMCA and the Florida Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. Joyce was married to Joseph E Bazaar on June 21, 1941. He passed away April 23, 1996. Joyce is survived by three sons, Paul Michael Bazaar (Mary Beth Martin of Galway, NY; John Joseph Bazaar (Kathy) of Ohio and Richard Walter Bazaar (Carol) of Latham, NY, five daughters, Donna Lee Harris of Salem, VA; Joyce Audrey Engle (Gary) of Amsterdam, Mary Cecila (Henley) of Jacksonville, AR; Anne Louise Lowery (David) of Wilton, CT; and Patricia Eileen Dopp (Paul) of Broadalbin, NY; eighteen grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Joyce was also predeceased by her son, Thomas Robert Bazaar, son-in-law, Alfred Harris, brother, Robert Hawker and his wife, Clara, sisters, Virginia McNamee and her husband, Bernard and Ruth Mathias and her husband, Harold. Funeral services will be held Friday morning at 10:30 at the Riley Mortuary, Inc., 110 Division Street, Amsterdam, NY 12010, followed at 11:15 by a Mass of Christian Burial, which will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Church 156 East Main Street, Amsterdam, with Fr. Jeffrey L’Arche M.S. officiating. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Fort Johnson, NY. Calling hours are Thursday (today) from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Riley Mortuary.
