Raymond Benjamin Cichy DDS., 75, of Grant Avenue, Amsterdam, NY; passed away Monday April 29, 2019 at home after a courageous battle with mesothelioma. Born in Amsterdam, NY on June 18, 1943, he was the son of the late Benjamin Albert and Mary Josephine Piech Cichy. Dr. Cichy received his education in the Mayfield school system and graduated from Mayfield High School in 1961. He continued his education at Le Moyne College in Syracuse, NY and New York University College of Dentistry. Dr. Cichy had practiced dentistry for 47 years. Dr. Cichy was an honorably discharged United State Army veteran serving from 1969 to 1971 with the rank of captain. Dr. Cichy enjoyed fishing, boating, flying and spending time with his family. He also had a lifelong love for dogs and humbly demonstrated compassion and giving to others. Dr. Cichy married Mary Ford Cichy on August 26, 1967. Mary survives along with his son, Michael R. Cichy of Amsterdam, NY; one daughter, Karen R. Opalka (Brian) of Amsterdam, one brother, Thomas F. Cichy (Sue Ann) of Mayfield, grandchildren, Alec, Matthew, Kaylin and Braydon Opalka and Michael Cichy., Nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Dr. Cichy’s family would like to thank Dr. Robert Goslin, Dr. Michael Hardies, Dr. Ingrid Rund, Dr. Alec Platt and to the nurses and staff at New York Oncology and Hematology, also to Dr. Cichy’s special friend, Dr. Ted Marcinizyn. Relatives and friends may call Sunday May 5, 2019 at the Riley Mortuary, Inc., 110 Division Street, Amsterdam, NY 12010, from 11:00 to 2:00 p.m., where a funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Jeffrey L’Arche, M.S. officiating. Cremation was held at Park View Crematory in Schenectady, NY.
