• Thomas A. Derx, 69, of Brooklyn Street, Angelica, passed away Sunday, March 4th, 2018 onboard ship off the coast of Chile. He was on a cruise around South America at the time of his death.
Born November 30, 1948, Tom was the son of Charles and Jane Genther Derx. He grew up in Belmont and was a graduate of Belmont Central School.
Tom received his college degree from SUNY Geneseo, and taught special education in the Lakeland, Florida area until his retirement 15 years ago. He enjoyed traveling and did so extensively in recent years, taking an around-the world cruise and visiting sites in Ireland, Scotland, and the Scandinavian countries. He had attended the Kentucky Derby, and took in the celebration in Times Square this past New Year’s Eve. He also enjoyed listening to music in the park in Angelica.
Tom is survived by a daughter, Emily Kennedy, and two grandchildren, Braeden and John.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at the Holy Family Catholic Church on August 6, 2018 at 11:00am. Burial was in St Mary’s Cemetery in Belmont, New York.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Brown & Powers Funeral Home in Angelica.
