Alice Gillis

Argyle Alice J. Gillis, 86, of Argyle, passed away on Thursday Feb. 4, 2016 at the Sarasota Memorial Hospital, Sarasota FL after a short illness. Alice was born on the family farm in Durkeetown, on January 1, 1930. She was the daughter of the late Raymond and Mary (Graham) Sharpe Sr. Alice worked for Washington County office for the aging and sold farm goods at many Farmers Markets. She was a member of Eastern Star, The Moose Lodge and The Red Hats in Florida. Alice enjoyed woodcarving. In particular, she liked carving walking sticks, animal figures, and Red Hat ladies. In addition to her parents, and husband Robert, Alice was predeceased by her brothers, Raymond A. Sharpe Jr. and Malcom G. Sharpe; her sister, M. Elaine McIntyre, and her brothers-in-law, Richard McIntyre and Richard Dalaba. Left to cherish her memory include her children, Barbara Gillis-Hughes and her husband Philip of Meshoppen, PA, Darlene Murphy and husband Clifford, Carl Gillis, Beth Gillis and significant other Bill Hadfield, and Stephen Gillis all of Argyle; her sister, Eleanor L. Dalaba of Argyle; her brother, Robert E. Sharpe of Clifton Park, her sisters- in- law, Lois and Marion Gillis of Argyle, 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. At Alice’s request there will be no calling hours. Memorial Services will be conducted at 6p.m. on Monday April 11, 2016 at the Argyle United Methodist Church, Sheridan Street, Argyle. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Donations may be made in Alice’s memory to a charity of ones choice. Arrangements are in the care of the M.B Kilmer Funeral Home, 123 Main St. Argyle.
