Argyle/Greenwich Rachael J. Williamson passed away peacefully at the Wesley Health Care Center in Saratoga on August 3, 2015. A remarkably strong woman, Rachael lived well into her 100th year. The daughter of the late Joseph and Wladyslawa “Violet” (Stankowska) Urbonowicz, she was born in Hudson Falls, NY on November 3, 1915. When her family moved to Argyle, Rachael walked to and attended District #13 and Argyle High Schools. In her youth she enjoyed playing basketball at the Argyle Town Hall where she ultimately met her husband, Jim, and her future in-laws. They began their married life on May 18, 1935 as partners at the Williamson Family Homestead, Hillside Farm, on Gilchrist Road in Argyle, where they raised their five daughters. Jim and Rae celebrated their 57th anniversary shortly before Jim’s passing in 1992. Besides her parents and husband, Rachael was predeceased by her daughter, Elizabeth Joyce Gould-Robinson; an infant great-granddaughter, Caroline Kapper; an infant sister, Catherine Urbonowicz; a brother, James Urbonowicz; and sisters Edith Kennedy, Helen Tidd, Stella Salembier, and Adella Konopka. A dedicated wife, mother, and homemaker, Rachael actively participated in the Goose Island Home Bureau, the Farmerettes. She and Jim were very involved in the lives of their five daughters, often chaperoning their class dances, attending activities, school and athletic events. As a devoted mother, Rachael took great pride in her family members and their accomplishments. Although the family was her priority, she also worked briefly at the Glens Falls W.T. Grant Co. and the Argyle Central School cafeteria. Later in life, she enjoyed participating in activities of the Greenwich Senior Citizens. An accomplished baker, Rachael was highly praised by relatives and friends for her homemade pies and jams made from home grown and hand-picked berries and fruit. Wherever she lived, one of her passions was her beloved flower gardens. Rachael had a love for learning and reading which she deeply instilled in her 5 daughters. Her hobbies included playing board games with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, as well as writing numerous verses and poems, sketching, doing puzzles, and of course, playing BINGO. Above all, Rachael’s greatest enjoyment was family gatherings, not only at holidays, but throughout the year. Left to cherish her memory are her four daughters: Alice Jones and her husband Roger; Carolyn Lord and her husband Jack; Margaret Wilbur and her husband Donald; and Beverly Thompson and her husband George. Grandma Rachael is lovingly remembered by her grandchildren: Elaine Terry; Terence Lord and his wife Jalane, John Lord, Carole Geruso and her husband Pat; Jim Gould; Stephen Wilbur, Kerri Kapper and her husband Ed, Gregg Wilbur and his wife Kim; Jill Cook and her husband Greg; her fourteen great-grandchildren and her two great-great grandchildren. Also surviving are her son-in-law James Robinson; her sister Dorothy Porter; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
