Salem and Argyle, NY Robert DeForest Hitchcock, 74, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2014 at the Glens Falls Hospital after a long illness. Born on May 11, 1940 in New Haven, CT, He was the son of the late Robert F. and Ruth (Davidson) Hitchcock. In 1960, he married Susanne “Shan” Kinne. Robert was a Vietnam War Veteran serving as a specialist 4th class in the US Army Medical Corp. He served as the former chairman of the Argyle Planning Board, was a trustee of the Argyle Presbyterian Church for many years and was an active member of the Tea Party Patriots. Upon retirement, he and his wife enjoyed traveling and spending time with family and friends. Bob was a kind and gentle man with a quick wit. He was a loving husband and father and farmed for 43 years with his wife by his side. He loved his family, his cows and his country. Robert was predeceased by his parents, his sister, Joan Hitchcock Carr and brother-in-law, Edward Carr. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 53 years, Susanne; his children Robert D. Hitchcock II and his wife Michelle of Van Hornesville, Daniel R. Hitchcock and his wife Kathryn of Springfield, and Sabrina B. Hitchcock of Greenwich; his five grandchildren, Tess, Caleb, Jonah, Jacob and Ainslie; as well as several nieces and nephews. Services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Burial with military honors will be at the convenience of the family at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville. Memorial donation may be made in Robert’s name to the Wounded Warrior Project, 370 7th Avenue, Suite 1802, New York, New York 10001 or to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN, 38105.
