Obituary for Alicia Cerda

Alicia Cerda, age 70, of Suffolk Lane, died on Tuesday, December 24, 2013 at her home surrounded by the love and prayers of her family present. She was born on November 28, 1943 in Santiago, Chile and was the daughter of the late Abel Torrealba del Fierro and Clara Esperanza Azagra. Mrs. Cerda was educated in Chile and was a graduate of Catholic University of Chile where she received her Bachelor’s Degree. She came to the United States in 1971 and had lived in Clifton Park since 1990. Earlier, she had lived in Chicago, Puerto Rico, Raleigh, and Long Island. Alicia was a LPN and worked at Samaritan Hospital in Troy for several years. A woman of great faith, throughout her life she surrounded herself in Christ with the parishes of Our Lady of Lourdes in NC, St. John’s in Riverhead and St. Mary’s in Crescent. She was an avid reader and she loved to travel and knit.
She was the beloved wife of the late Edward Eugene Cerda; devoted mother of Marie-Claire (Shannon) Higgins of Malta, NY and Monique (Bruce) Cerda-Behan of Clifton Park; loving sister of Emma (Philip) Zetterstrand of Woodstock, NY and late sister of Anjelica Torrealba (Adan) Acosta of Santiago, Chile; cherished grandmother of Ethan, Olivia, Shamus and Isabella; dear aunt of Wendy (Mark) Witte of E. Greenbush, Nils Zetterstrand of Scotia, Erika and Claudia Acosta of Santiago, Chile; caring sister-in-law of Maria Eugenia Cerda and her children Carolina (Dan) Butler and Alfred Moreno.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, December 26, 2013 at 10 AM at St. Mary’s Church, Crescent, 86 Church Hill Road, Waterford, NY. Father Joseph Cebula, Pastor will officiate.
There will be no public calling hours.
Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Troy, NY.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Memorial Sloan Kettering, 1275 York Ave, New York, NY 10065, or to Community Hospice of Saratoga, 179 Lawrence St., Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.
