Estelle S. Coulter, age 85, of Clifton Park died on September 6, 2015 at her residence with her loving family by her side. She was born on June 30, 1930 in Albany, NY and was the daughter of the late Howard D. and Margaret E. (Campion) Schafer. Estelle was a graduate of The Vincentian Institute of Albany High School class of 1948. She received her Bachelors of Science Degree in Business and Economics at The College of St. Rose in Albany, NY in 1952. On October 29, 1955 she married the love of her life, George Coulter who died January 4, 2014. Together they raised five children.
Estelle was a communicant of St. Edward the Confessor Church in Clifton Park, NY, where she was one of the original members of the parish and served as a Eucharistic Minister.
Flowers were always a part of Estelle’s life. From her early years of tending flower and vegetable gardens in her childhood Albany home to Rose chains and May Day celebrations at school. Estelle learned flower arranging working for a florist, part time while a student. She joined a Garden Club in Clifton Park where she formed lifelong friendships, continued her flower arranging and education on local perennials, as well as enjoyed field trips to garden shows and gardens.
Estelle was a Girl Scout leader, a Den mother and followed her three daughters in 4H and was always present and supporting children and grandchildren’s at their games, concerts and dance recitals. She enjoyed attending her husband George’s many band concerts through the years. She was a volunteer for Vanguard-Albany Symphony, GE Elfun Society, Knights of Columbus Women’s Auxiliary, Care Links, and the church Fair Trade. She enjoyed playing cards with friends and hosting bridge club and craft club and was an avid square dancer with her husband.
Estelle began her work career at General Electric, where she met George. After staying home to raise her five children she worked part time.
She enjoyed traveling to visit sons, daughters and grandchildren in Texas, California and Massachusetts. With her husband George she traveled to Austria, England, Ireland, Hawaii and Alaska as well as annual spring visits to Hilton Head Island in South Carolina. With George she introduced her young kids to most of the fifty states and many of the national, state and local parks from the ring side seat of a yellow Plymouth Fury III station wagon and a camper trailer.
She was the loving mother of Lynne Appleyard of Sugar Land, TX, Beth Coulter of Clifton Park, NY, Keith Coulter of Needham, MA, Jeffrey Coulter of Truckee, CA and Kerry (Robert) Mundinger of Clifton Park, NY; caring grandmother of Ian, Emily, Kyle, Meaghan, James, Lauren and Grace; sister of Howard Schafer, Katherine McArdle and the late Mary Helene Lindsay.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit and pay respects on Thursday, September 10, 2015 from 4:00-7:00 PM at Townley & Wheeler Funeral Home, 21 Midline Road, Ballston Lake, NY.
Funeral will be held on Friday, September 11, 2015 at 9:00 AM from the funeral home and thence to St. Edward the Confessor Church, 569 Clifton Park Center Road, Clifton Park where at 10:00 AM a Mass of Christian burial will be held.
Interment will be in Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery where she will join her husband in rest eternal.
