Obituary for Jean R. Diesem

Jean set sail for new horizons, navigating by the stars to the heavenly shore on July 28. Jean’s journey began in the Bronx in 1925. She grew up looking to the Great South Bay in Babylon, Long Island. The only child of Gilbert and Alice Ridley, she attended Skidmore College and was graduated with a degree in Sociology. She worked as the village of Ballston Spa librarian when the building was new and then as a bookmobile librarian with the Southern Adirondack Library System. She loved researching requests from her patrons and helping them find the perfect reading materials. She was always quoting texts, songs and poems about the ocean. With a twinkle in her eye she also loved to correct any grammatical slips she heard around her. She cherished her family, friends from SALS and from the Union Presbyterian Church. She will always be remembered for her love of books, her gardens, ballet and the ocean. Throughout her life Jean cared for beagles, a basset, and her precious cats.

Jean was predeceased by her husband of 42 years Donald Diesem.
She is survived by her three daughters, Susan(James)Schultz, Nancy Peck , and Barbara (James) Diesem-Zimmons . She is survived by her six cherished grandchildren, Kristen (Ivan) Lee , Jennifer (Ricardo)Rivera, Gregory (Elizabeth) Schultz , Therese (Benjamin) Brigham , Peter Zimmons(Cheryl Burke) and Carolyn Zimmons (Alex Coyle) and by four great grandchildren, Maya and Brian Lee, Sarah and Joseph Brigham. She is survived by nephews and nieces especially Linda, Kathi and Jon.
