Obituary for William Arthur Allers

William (Bill) A. Allers, age 88, passed away on Monday, December 23, 2019 at Ellis Hospital. Bill was born in Queens, NY on February 12, 1931 to the late Arthur and Clara (Funk) Allers.
Bill attended St Matthias grammar and high school. Following his graduation, he attended St. John’s University, earning a bachelor’s degree in Accounting. William enlisted in the United States Army in 1952 and served during the Korean War, until his honorable discharge in 1954.
During his lifetime he worked in many capacities, including work as a Life Insurance Salesman, Sales Manager for National Gypsum, VP of Sandy’s Upstate Building Supply, Manager for Bob Howard Real Estate, Sales Broker for Realty USA, Real Estate Home Appraiser, and completed his career working for the Department of HUD.

Bill enjoyed many hobbies and had many interests. Bill was foremost a collector. He collected stamps, coins, and his passion, Hummels. Always busy antiquing, refinishing furniture, and finding the next valuable collectible. He loved photography, and always had a camera at his side, whether it was to take slides, prints or Polaroids. He was a member of the Schenectady photo club and often put his photographs on display for local competitions within the Capital District. He won many awards for his photography. Bill was a long-term member of the American Legion Mohawk Post Chapter 1450. He also was an avid bowler, and was a long-term member of the Schenectady bowling league.

William is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Joan M. (Casey) Allers; his wonderful children, Bill Allers, Jr of Sauquoit, NY, Tom (Laurie) Allers of Williamsville, NY, Bob (Pam) Allers of Ballston Lake, NY and Peggy (Darrin) Coy of Clifton Park, NY. He is also survived by seven grandchildren; Shane (Kalyn) Allers, Meagan Allers, Jenna Allers, Sean (Natalie) Allers, Victoria Allers, Michael Coy, and Catherine Coy. Also survived by one great grandson Karsten Allers, and a niece, Carol (Dave) Heisler.
He was predeceased by his sister and brother-in-law, Kathleen and Bob Grenawalt.

Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Sunday, December 29, 2019 from 3:00-5:00 pm at Townley & Wheeler Funeral Home, 21 Midline Road Ballston Lake, NY.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Fr. Rick Lesser on Monday, December 30, 2019 at 9:00 am at Corpus Christi Church, 2001 U.S. 9, Round Lake, NY.

Interment with military honors will follow at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville.
