August "Gus" Nelson Schmidt Jr. sailed away to Heaven on May 9, 2015 surrounded by his loving family. After over 35 years of service, Gus retired from roofers Local 203. After retirement he worked for the Whitney Point Central Schools as a Bus Driver, a job he loved very much! "His Kids" on the bus route gave him great enjoyment. Throughout his life he enjoyed giving back to the community. He coached both baseball and softball and was a Boy Scout Leader. He was a member of many "coffee clubs" for which he spent many hours solving the world's problem! He is predeceased by his parents Helen Schmidt and August Schmidt; daughter Tina Schmidt (Crowley); grandson Christian Crowley and granddaughter Makayla Frost. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Paula; son Stephen (Michelle); daughters Karen (Ken) Frost and Denise Telfer (Yohance); grandchildren Devin, Austin, Noel, Eric, Jacob, Jordan, Gabby, Brendan, Tashryha, Cheyanna, Cameron and Cody; great grandchildren Devin Jr., Haley, Lilly and Bradley; his siblings Helen, Debbie, Tammy, Dona and Dane; stepmom Rose and many special friends. The family would like to thank all the nursing staff from Lourdes ICU, PCU and Seton 1, as well as all the physicians who cared for him. And a special thank you to Dr. Ziah Shah, Glenn and John from Seton 1 who went above and beyond with their care!
