Marie worked all her life to help provide for her family. During WWII, she worked at Spaulding Bakeries where she met and married her husband, Leon E. Finally, Marie retired from Putnam Publishing in 1992 (currently Penguin Group) where she is fondly remembered by many of her co-workers. Marie made friends wherever she worked. She enjoyed entertaining, particularly when her husband would have cookouts or host pizza parties.
