Albertina Gallacher Obituary

Albertina Mary (Morfesi) Gallacher November 26, 1925 – February 21, 2020

Albertina “Tina” was born to Albert and Nicolina Mary (Bartilucci) Morfesi in the Bronx, NY and passed away peacefully at the Regional Hospice in Danbury, CT at the age of 94.

Tina led a full and active life. She was a ‘Rosie the Riveter’ in WWII and supported the war effort as a machinist working on aircraft engines for the Sperry Company. She worked as a buyer in New York City for B. Altman Co. and W.T. Grant Co., and married the late James Gallacher in 1953. They raised a family, primarily in Brewster, NY. In addition to being a homemaker and fabulous cook, Tina worked in the offices of the Garden Street School in Brewster, and later became an executive secretary at The American Can Company in Greenwich, CT. She eventually moved to Danbury, CT, where she made her final home. In retirement, Tina volunteered with the American Red Cross, receiving several awards, and also volunteered at the Saint John Paul II Rehab Center in Danbury. She was active in the Bethel Senior Center, playing and hosting bridge parties. Tina founded the Bethel SWANS, a chapter of the Red Hat Society that had over 20 members. She was quoted as saying: "We believe silliness is the comedy of life, and since we are all in it together, we might as well join red-gloved hands and go for the gusto together. Underneath the frivolity, we share a bond of affection forged by common life experiences and genuine enthusiasm for wherever life takes us next”.

Tina had a great sense of humor and welcomed everyone to her home. She made new friends everywhere she went. Family and friends were the pride and joy of her life and she dearly loved all of them. Her door was always open to anyone who wanted to hang out in the kitchen and eat a great meal. She was very strong in her Roman Catholic faith. She was predeceased by her parents, her brother George (Ann) Morfesi, her sister Lucia (Ralph) Pisciotta, her son-in-law Jon Sandstrom, and an infant son born in 1954. Tina is survived by her children: Lucia (Skip) Ahneman, Nantucket, MA; Frances Gallacher Walsh, Brewster, NY; James (Virginia) Gallacher, Brewster, NY; Thomas (Marianne) Gallacher, Naples, FL; Robert (Stephanie) Gallacher, New Fairfield, CT; Pamela (Abe Totah) Gallacher Sandstrom, Napa, CA; son-in-law Michael Walsh, Brewster, NY; 15 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, and countless friends.

Her family is eternally grateful to Regional Hospice in Danbury for the love, support and peaceful transition that they provided in her last weeks.

Tina will be greatly missed. A Mass will be held at 11:00am on Saturday March 28, 2020 at St. James the Apostle Church, 14 Gleneida Avenue, Carmel, NY. A luncheon will follow at the Putnam Lake VFW, 4 Fairfield Drive, Patterson, NY. In lieu of flowers, Tina wished that donations be sent to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (stjude.org), Help our Military Heroes “HOMH” (www.helpourmilitaryheroes.org) or Regional Hospice (regionalhospicect.org)
