Dorothy Kurka

Dorothy Kurka, age 86, of North Salem, NY, passed away on September 14, 2011 in Carmel, NY. Dorothy was born November 9, 1924 to Michael and Marie (Skladow) Halaychik. Mrs. Kurka was a graduate of Commerce High School. She married the love of her life, Eugene Kurka, November 15, 1947 at St. Nicholas of Myra in Yonkers. She was employed by Blendette Cosmetics, where she worked as an office manager for over 15 years. While residing in Yonkers, Mrs. Kurka served proudly as the District leader for the 1st Ward Democrat Club, and for two years was the City Chairwoman for the March of Dimes. Dorothy, her husband Eugene, and their family would spend weekends and summers at Peach Lake, North Salem, New York, and retired there in 1981. She was an avid and loyal Mets fan, and enjoyed day trips to the casinos. But most of all, Dorothy will be remembered for her love and devotion to her family and friends. <br>Dorothy is survived by her devoted husband, Eugene, her sister, Anne Kazimir and her loving daughters, Dorothy Jean Siuta (Gerald) of New City, NY. Barbara Anne Kavanaugh (Robert) of Stormville, NY. and Linda Kavanaugh (Thomas- deceased) of North Salem, NY. Her cherished grandchildren Michael J. Siuta, (wife Debi), Taryn (Kavanaugh) Buffolino (husband-Mattia), Kristen Kavanaugh and Brian Kavanaugh. Great grandchildren Ryan and Jenna Siuta and Siena Buffolino. Family will receive friends on Sunday, September 18, 2011 between 2-4pm & 7-9pm at the Beecher Funeral Home, 1 Putnam Ave. Brewster, NY 10509. (845)-279-3615. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Monday, Sept. 19, at 11:30AM at St. Joseph's Church in Croton Falls. "It's not a hurricane, it's just Dot doing the Lindy." <br><br><br>
