Edna Steen Lewis Obituary

Edna Steen Lewis, 87, wife of the late Robert James Lewis, went home to be with her lord and savior Jesus Christ on November 8, 2012.

Born January 10, 1925, in Jersey City, New Jersey, Edna was the youngest daughter of the late Paul Revere Steen and Mabel Zimmerman Steen. She lived most of her life in Jersey City where her husband owned the Mohawk Diner. She and her husband moved to Berwick, Pennsylvania in 1995, and for the past two years she resided at The Plaza in Carmel, New York.

She was a long – time member of Trinity Baptist Church in Jersey City where she was a Sunday School teacher and taught Children’s Church for many years. She especially enjoyed teaching children the Gospel and about the work of missionaries around the world. She is a member of Berwick Bible Church in Berwick, PA and enjoyed participating in both the children’s and nursing home ministries. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great- grandmother. Her greatest joy was to spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren. In the words of Proverbs 31:28, “Her children arise up, and call her blessed.”

She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters Lillian and Marian, and her beloved husband. She is survived by her two children, Robert J. Lewis and his wife Carin of Berwick, PA, and Bette McCarthy and her husband Gary of Patterson, NY; Seven grandchildren, Michelle Lewis Harris, Laura Lewis Chymist, Rachel McCarthy Austin, Robert Lewis, Gary McCarthy, Robert McCarthy, Geoffrey McCarthy; and four great- grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 10, 2012, at Beecher Funeral Home, 1 Putnam Avenue, Brewster, New York. Viewing will begin at 1 pm with the funeral following at 2 pm. Services will be officiated by Pastor Richard DeMoss of Colonial Hills Baptist Church and Dr. CJ Harris, her grandson – in- law. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the missions fund of Colonial Hills Baptist Church, Danbury, CT or Berwick Bible Church, Berwick, PA.
