Elizabeth (Betty) Irving Ballantine,93, died peacefully at home in Brewster, NY on October 13th after a short illness.
Born on July 26, 1926 in Bronxville, NY, she was the daughter of Frances W. and Dr. Albert J. Irving. She attended Bronxville School, Drew Academy and earned her high school diploma at the Ethel Walker School in Simsbury, CT. She also attended Vassar College.
Betty’s family moved permanently to Brewster in 1933. In December 1947 she married the love of her life Herbert W. Ballantine at Brewster’s St. Andrews Episcopal Church. With the exception of three years in Hopkinton, MA and three years in Hanover, PA, they spent their entire marriage here.
Besides her husband, she is survived by a son, Charles, of Poughkeepsie, NY; her daughter-in-law Alexandra, also of Brewster; two granddaughters, Brenna and Marina; and twin grandsons, Peter and Ian. Her son, John, predeceased her.
Betty was a lifelong supporter of animal welfare and children’s charities and was a thoughtful, supportive and loving presence to friends and family alike.
A graveside service is planned at the family plot in Pawling Rural Cemetery, Pawling, NY. Deacon David Marris of the church of Holy Communion of Mahopac, NY, will officiate. Beecher Funeral Home, 1 Putnam Avenue, Brewster, NY assisted the family with arrangements.
