Gerard Duffy, 78, a 41 year resident of Patterson, NY, passed away suddenly on June 25, 2016.
Gerard was born in New York, NY on December 19, 1937 son of John and Josephine (O’Grady) Duffy. He graduated from Fordham University with a PhD and received his Law degree from Pace University.
Gerry was a social studies teacher for many years at Hawthorne- Cedar Knolls and Sleepy Hollow High School. In addition, he taught politics and international law at Marymount College. In recent years, he practiced law and was a public defender for the Putnam County Courts.
His friends and family considered him a Renaissance Man because of his knowledge in so many areas. He enjoyed running and was an avid reader of books concerning politics since he had run for office twice, once for State Senate in the late 60s and again for mayor of White Plains in 1973. He was also a pilot, author and Captain in the N.Y. National Guard.
Gerard is survived by his children; Gregory (Maria Scampoli) and Sean both of Brewster, NY and his granddaughter, Madalyn. He is also survived by his sisters Audrey Bauer and Deborah Duffy and a nephew and several nieces. He was predeceased by his brother John.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday July 6, 2016 at 10am at Sacred Heart Church, Patterson, NY. Interment will follow at Rockland Cemetery, Sparkill, NY. Friends may call Beecher Funeral Home, Brewster on July 5 2016 from 4pm-8pm. www.Beecherfuneralhome.com
