Harold Hansen, age 85, passed away on Sunday, October 15, 2017 with family in the Somers Manor Nursing Home.
He was born on December 6, 1931 in Yonkers N.Y. to Karen and Olav Hansen. Harold attended George Washington High School in Washington Heights, Manhattan, N.Y.. He studied at New York University and served in the United States Navy protecting our country during the Korean War. Harold was a proud and active member of the Brewster V.F.W. Post 672 where he was respected and admired by friends and fellow veterans.
He married Patricia Durkin Hansen in 1972 whom he loved and adored until her passing in 2001. Harold devoted his professional life as a salesman in the transportation industry in New Jersey. Harold loved baseball, playing pool, golfing, the ocean and ultimately being with family and friends laughing and enjoying life.
Harold was a dedicated brother to his two brothers (Thomas and Peter) and sister (Christine). Harold will be lovingly remembered by his children, MaryLou (Mark), Linda (Tom), Carole, Roy (DawnMarie) and Kathleen (Sean). Harold will also be fondly remembered by his seven grandchildren, Anthony, Benjamin, Kelly, Nicholas, Brittany, Ryan and Patricia along with his great-granddaughter, Sabrina.
Our family would like to thank the angels in our father’s life that cared for him at home, The Plaza at Clover Lake and finally at the Somers Manor Nursing Home with such love, dignity, humor and respect.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Harold’s name can be made to the Friends of Senior Citizens of Putnam County, 110 Old Rte. 6 Carmel Hamlet, N.Y. 10512.
The family will receive friends at the Beecher Funeral Home, 1 Putnam Avenue Brewster, N.Y., Wednesday, October 18, 2017, 4:00 p.m.- 8:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Thursday at the funeral home at 10 am. Interment will follow at St. Lawrence O’Toole Cemetery.
