Harvey J. VanDerlyn Jr., a lifelong resident of Brewster, NY, died on Saturday, November 17, 2018. He was 92 years old.
Born on March 22, 1926 in Yonkers, NY, son of Harvey and Estelle (Nodine) VanDerlyn. Harvey was graduated from Brewster High School and honorably served in the US Navy during WWII.
Harvey married the love of his life, Mary Emma Cessna on April 29, 1945 in Bedford, PA. They were blessed to be married for 73 wonderful years.
Harvey was a longtime Insurance man, first working with Metropolitan Life Insurance Company as an insurance agent in Danbury, CT for 30 years before retiring and further working as an investment advisor with Hudson Heritage in Croton-On-Hudson, NY.
Harvey was a member of the VFW Post 672 in Brewster. He was a member of Gideons International and the Bedford Community Church where he served upon many different boards through the years as well as a church elder. Harvey was an avid golfer, reader and enjoyed working around his yard.
Besides his wife Mary Emma, Harvey is survived by his Son James VanDerlyn and his wife Paula of Katonah, NY and his daughter Susan Peacock and her husband Darrick of Huntersville, NC. His brother-in-law Philip Moncuse of Brewster; 5 grandchildren, James, Courtney, Amy, Abigail and Michael, 4 great grandchildren, Kristen, Allison, Gregory and Mason. Harvey was predeceased by his sisters, Doris Vanderlyn and Florence Moncuse.
A memorial service will be held after the first of the new year at the Bedford Community Church. A private cremation will be held at this time. Beecher Funeral Home, 1 Putnam Avenue, Brewster, NY will be assisting the family with the funeral arrangements.
