James M Coulter Obituary

James M. Coulter of Lake Carmel, New York passed away peacefully at his home on June 15, 2020 with his loving family by his side. He was 78 years old.

Born in Greenpoint, Brooklyn on January 28, 1942, he was the oldest of six children. He was born to the late James T. and Nora (Hillery) Coulter. He graduated from the LaSalle Academy in Manhattan and subsequently earned a Bachelor of Business as well as a Bachelor of Science. On November 28, 1964, he married the love of his life, Kathleen Ann McFaul, at St. Cecelia Church in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. Together they had three daughters whom they raised in Brooklyn and later relocated to Lake Carmel, NY with their extended family.

Jim served honorably in the United States Army and was a founding member of the Goldcoats - the development team for the United States Military Academy at West Point’s Academic Computer Center. He later worked for Lockheed Martin, ACS and Xerox in Tarrytown, NY, as a Project Leader of Software Development. Jim’s compassionate nature and understanding of everyone on a personal level led him to be a much-admired boss throughout his entire professional career.

Jim was known to be a determined, natural born leader and caretaker and was looked to for advice and support by all who knew him. He was a tremendously giving man with a fantastic sense of humor. Jim was never, ever at a loss for words and would typically leave a crowd in hysterics with his quick wit. Jim was completely devoted to his family - his grandchildren were his life. He placed everyone’s needs before his own and was immensely loved by all who knew him. Jim had a fascination with science- particularly geology, paleontology, and astronomy- and enrolled in multiple college courses “for entertainment” well into his 60s
.
Married for 56 years, he is survived not only by his loving and devoted wife, Kathleen, but their three daughters: Kathy (Jim) Petretti of Lake Carmel, NY, Colleen (Steve) Larson, also of Lake Carmel, NY; and Maureen Coulter (Adam) Moran, of Patterson, NY; his grandchildren: Ryan and Kristina Frey, Madison Moran, and James, Heather, and Danielle Larson. Jim is also survived by his siblings: Michael (Joan) Coulter of Beacon, NY, Maryann (late Ross) Eddy of Poughquag, NY, and Tom (Nan) Coulter of Bethel, CT. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Cathy Coulter of Boca Raton, FL.
He was predeceased by his beloved sister, Sister Honore, OP who he spoke of often and missed beyond measure and more recently his brother, John Coulter, who coincidentally passed away four years to the day prior to Jim’s passing.

The family was assisted with their arrangements by Beecher Funeral Home, 1 Putnam Avenue, Brewster, NY. A memorial celebration will be planned at a future date when the COVID-19 restrictions have been lessened or ended.
