Duffy, James P. Jr., age 81, of Brant Lake, NY formerly of Brewster, NY, died November 15, 2013 in Glens Falls, NY.
Mr. Duffy was born in Mt. Vernon, NY on October 21, 1932 to James P. and Volberg (Anderson) Duffy. He was graduated from Brewster High School and received his bachelors from Fordham University in the Bronx, NY. Mr. Duffy had served in the Army during and following the Korean War.
Mr. Duffy married Mary Jane Fernand in 1956 at St. Lawrence O’Toole Church in Brewster, NY. Mrs. Duffy died in 2010.
Mr. Duffy was an accountant Controller for New York Hospital in White Plains, NY.
Mr. Duffy was a 62 year member of the Brewster Fire Department. In 1961 he was made Lieutenant of Engine Company #3 until 1964 when he was made captain, and after one year he was made 2nd assistant chief. He continued to rise through the ranks serving as 1st assistant chief and then chief for two years beginning in 1969.
Mr. Duffy was also Treasurer of the Department from 1963 until 1965. He became a member of the Board of Fire Commissioners in 1972 and appointed commissioner that same year filling a vacancy. James also was a life member and treasurer of the Putnam County Vol. Fire Chiefs Association and a member of Putnam County Vol. Fire Association. At the end of that term he was elected commissioner for a six year term and re-elected to serve yet again.
James passion was fishing and enjoyed his retirement home on Brant lake.
But most of all James will be remembered for love and devotion to his family and friends.

Mr. Duffy is survived by his two loving daughters; Kathleen (John) Brundage of Brookfield, CT and Patricia Duffy of Brewster, NY; his three sons, James P. Duffy III (Ellen) of Fishkill, NY, Thomas Duffy of Warrensburg, NY and John Duffy ( Nancy) of Middlebury, FL. Also survived by his six cherished grandchildren.
A service to celebrate his life will be held Tuesday November 19th , 11am at the Beecher Funeral Home 1 Putnam Ave, Brewster, NY. 10509. 845-279-3615, www. beecherfuneralhome.com . Calling hours will be held on Monday November 18th, from 4pm to 8pm at Beecher funeral Home in Brewster, NY. A private cremation following service. He will be greatly missed.
