Jill Caralyus

Jill Caralyus, a 40 year resident of Somers, NY, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at her home following a courageous battle with cancer. She was 72 years old. <br><br>Jill was born February 21, 1944 in Queens, NY, daughter to the late John Winney and Marie (LaRose) Fazio. Due to the untimely death of her father John who was killed in action during WWII before Jill was born, Jill was raised by Joseph Fazio and her mother Marie. <br><br>In 1968, Jill married her beloved Thomas A. Caralyus in the Bronx, NY. He predeceased her on October 25, 2010. Jill and Tom loved to travel, dance, and volunteer and cherished their special circle of friends in Fort Pierce and other parts of Florida. <br><br>Jill was self- employed and operator of I Organize- a home organizing business. Jill was a skilled interior and garden designer for her many friends and family. She was an active community volunteer along with her husband Tom, including Meals on Wheels and Friends of Karen. She was a caregiver to many. <br><br>Jill is survived by her children Carrie Caralyus and Eric Caralyus; her dear sisters Sally Rotundo (Michael) and Barbara McGrory (Ken). Jill cherished the company of her nieces and nephews and the many children in her life including Grace, John Angelo, Robert, Gianna, Kaitlin, Julia, Giada, Mila, Kate and Michael. She was predeceased by her brother John Edward (Jack) Winney. <br><br>Jill was a dear friend to Thomas J. Roell and family, her childhood friend Jo Ann Olmstead, Peggy Eichorn, the very special Dale and Thomas J. Sauser and family and so many more. Jill will be remembered for her feisty spirit, her love of tennis, her smile and sense of humor. <br><br>A Memorial Service will be held Monday, May 2, 2016 from 5:00 PM – 6:00 PM at Beecher Funeral Home, 1 Putnam Avenue, Brewster, NY. A private cremation took place prior to the service. It is Jill’s wish to have her remains mingled with her husband Tommy’s and scattered around their favorite beach. <br><br>Contributions in Jill’s memory may be made to your local Meals on Wheels. Jill left this hand-written note in her kitchen wishing all to focus on the happy moments in life: “Don’t cry because it’s over. Smile because it happened.” <br><br>
