John Delaney, of Fort Myers, Florida, died Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at the age of 78. He was born on August 1, 1934, in the Bronx, NY to the late Walter and Adele Delaney. After graduating from Cardinal Hayes High School, he served with the Army in the office of the Chief of Staff in the Pentagon from 1957 to 1963. He then attended and graduated from the Bernard Baruch branch of City College. He continued on with a career in finance with corporations such as Olivetti and Leer.


John is survived by his first wife, Sophie Delaney of Pawling, NY, his 6 children; Lorraine Cipolla of Poughkeepsie, NY, John Delaney of Hempstead, LI, Jeanne Bayless of Carmel, NY, Constance Casey of Pawling, NY, Marianne Groves of Poughquag, NY, and Matthew Delaney of Hempstead, LI; his brothers Walter Delaney of Southold, LI, and Edward Delaney of Lake Havasu, AZ. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren; Logan Carey, Nicholas Delaney, Lauren Casey, Anne Marie Cipolla and Jessica Groves, as well as a great granddaughter, Addison Carey, and his friend and companion Dianne Lecki, of Fort Myers, Fl.

John was an avid Yankee fan who never took off that cap. He enjoyed traveling the world, watching the stock market, and spending time with his grand kids. He also looked to forward to his monthly three-hour lunches with his old buddies, as well as the camaraderie of his buddies at the gym.

Viewing will be held on Wednesday, February 13 from 4:00pm - 8:00pm at Beecher Funeral Home, 1 Putnam Ave., Brewster, NY. WWW.BEECHERFUNERALHOME.COM A private service will be held for the family on Thursday, February 14 in New Jersey, where John will be laid to rest next to his second wife, Cynthia Delaney.
