Joseph Michael Pontonio, of Brewster, NY, died Sunday April 17, 2016 at Vassar Brothers Hospital. He was 76 years old
Mr. Pontonio was born June 20, 1939 son to the late Michael and Ada (Grimaldi) Pontonio. He honorably served in the US Army from 1956-1958.
Joe married Emily Ceo on April 22, 1961 in the Bronx, NY. Together they moved to Brewster 47 years ago.
Mr. Pontonio worked for the NYPD highway #1 as a motorcycle police officer. He retired in 1982
Joe was your go to man, he enjoyed tinkering, building, and repairing cars. He enjoyed his morning coffee and donuts with his friends. His grandchildren were most important to him.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children; Joseph Jr. (Heather), Barbara (Jim) Havart, Steven (Elaine) and Robert (Agnas); his sister; Lucille (Joe) Hughes; Five grandchildren; Caitlin, Ryan, Alex, Michael and Max.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday April 21, 2016 at 10:00AM at St. Lawrence O’Toole Church, Brewster, NY. Interment following at St. Peter’s Cemetery, Danbury, CT. Friends may call at the Beecher Funeral Home, 1 Putnam Avenue, Brewster, NY on Wednesday from 4-8pm.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Joe’s memory may be made to the American Diabetes Association and/or St. Jude’s Childrens Research Hospital.
