Ramon Allen Molony Obituary

Ramon “Ray” Allen Molony, son of James W. Molony and Alma Adele Molony (Stoddart), passed away peacefully at Putnam Hospital Center, Carmel, New York on January 13, 2017.
Ray was born in Port Chester, New York on August 17, 1933 and attended Port Chester schools. He served his country during the Korean War in the U.S. Marine Corps attaining the rank of sergeant. He remained a proud Marine all of his life finding great joy as a member of the Marine Corps League.
Ray spent his life working as a horseman as his father had before him. He was a well respected rider, trainer, and manager throughout his career. Although he had a brief stint as a Metropolitan Life agent, his life was devoted to the horse profession. He worked at Blind Brook Polo Club in Purchase, NY, Round Hill Stables in Greenwich, CT, and Cedar Lodge Farm in Stamford, CT. He was a past treasurer and president of the Professional Horsemen’s Association and in 1995 he was awarded the Frank J. Hawkins Award as Outstanding Horseman of the Year by the P.H.A. In his retirement he loved to spend time watching horse racing and wagering a few dollars here and there. He also became a devoted Yankee fan in his later years.
Ray is survived by his wife of nearly thirty years, Carol Molony, and his children, Darren Molony (Debra), Heather Smeriglio (John), Marion Kogstad (Erik), and Noreen Simmel (Mike). He is also survived by his grandchildren Peter Molony (Kelly), Jennifer Molony, Dechristine Bozek (Dan), Jacob Smeriglio, Ryan Kogstad, Joshua Kogstad, Alexander Kogstad, Daniel Kogstad, Conner Gaffney, Megan Simmel and five great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son, Shawn Allen Molony, and granddaughter, Sara Molony.
To honor his life, family and friends will gather on Tuesday, January 17th at Beecher Funeral Home in Brewster, NY from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 18th at St. Lawrence O’Toole Church in Brewster, NY at 10 a.m.
