Rita Casciari

Rita Casciari of Somers, New York, died Wednesday, January 30, 2013 at Putnam Hospital Center. She was 84.<br>Mrs. Casciari was born September 12, 1928 in Nottingham, England, daughter of<br>the late Ferdinand and Florence (Jackson) Blankley.<br>She was an English war bride, falling in love with and marrying an injured American soldier, Domenick C. Casciari in January 1945. A resident of New Canaan, CT, Mrs. Casciari traveled the world with her children and husband while he was in the army, before the couple retired to Boca Raton, FL. Domenick predeceased his wife in 2002. After his death Rita moved to Somers to live with her daughter, Susan.<br>Mrs. Casciari was a prolific reader, adept jigsaw puzzler and cardplayer,<br>avid gardener, and amateur chef whose Italian chicken soup will live on. Her greatest passion in life, however, was her grandchildren she was the best grandmother.<br>Mrs. Casciari is survived by her three children: Prudence Jon Carswell of Florida,Frank Domenick Casciari of New York City, Susan Carmella Cardoza of Somers,and a sister, Betty Loverseed of Canada. She is also survived by five grandchildren: John, Adrienne, Domenica, Sydney, and Francesca, and two great grandchildren, Kristen and Brandon.<br>A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, February 5th at 10:00 am at St. Lawrence O’Toole Church in Brewster. A private cremation occurred prior to the mass. Interment will be at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery.<br>In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the A.S.P.C.A.<br>
